Still getting bitten? Mosquito relief is coming soon, expert says

A wet summer and invasive Asian tiger mosquitoes kept the bites coming into October, but cooler weather should end the season.

Chicagoans are still reporting mosquito bites after a summer with 3.32 inches of above-average rain and a growing population of daytime-biting Asian tiger mosquitoes, Block Club Chicago reports.

Loyola public health professor Justin Harbison said October usually brings a drop-off as mosquitoes enter diapause โ€” faster if it stays cool, though warm spells can delay it. He urged residents to dump standing water, since the mosquitoes biting you are often breeding nearby.
