Springfield Children’s Choir launches with east-side schools

Second- through fifth-graders get classical vocal training; D186 buses kids to rehearsals at the Salvation Army.

The Springfield Children’s Choir debuted with an Oct. 1 ribbon cutting, Illinois Times reports. The program trains east-side children in grades 2–5 in classical singing techniques; District 186 provides after-school transportation and The Salvation Army hosts rehearsals.

Superintendent Terrance Jordan said the kids get professional coaching, and music director Jacobsen Woollen said the goal is a zero-barrier choir that could someday sing with the Illinois Symphony, tour or appear on TV.
