Mahomet ends data center talks after resident pushback

The village says “overwhelming opposition” helped end discussions with Clean Cloud Energy.

The Village of Mahomet said Monday it has ended discussions with Clean Cloud Energy over a possible data center in a nearby rural area, WAND reports. The village had disclosed Sept. 28 that it and the company had talked about a possible development agreement.

Mayor Jason Tompkins said residents’ feedback and overwhelming opposition contributed significantly to the decision. Hundreds of residents objected at a community meeting Saturday, and the village said the feedback showed data centers don’t align with its long-term priorities.
