Finance Committee OKs $260.8M Guevara settlement; full council votes Oct. 14
The City Council’s Finance Committee voted unanimously Monday to approve a $260.8 million global settlement covering 16 lawsuits from 17 people wrongfully convicted in cases tied to former Chicago police Detective Reynaldo Guevara, the Sun-Times and WTTW report. The full City Council is set to vote Oct. 14.
WTTW reports the city would pay in four equal installments in April and October of 2027 and 2028, and the plaintiffs’ law firm would receive 40%. A city attorney said the deal resolves only about half of the Guevara-related cases, the Sun-Times reports.
