Amazon buys empty Goose Island-area warehouse for a same-day delivery hub

The ~$200 million building at Division and Elston should open in late 2027 or early 2028 with grocery refrigeration.

Amazon has acquired the multistory distribution warehouse at 1237 W. Division St., between Goose Island and the Kennedy Expressway, for a same-day delivery hub, Block Club Chicago reports. Crain’s first reported the purchase price at almost $200 million; the building was built on spec at a former Peoples Gas site and has sat empty since it was finished in 2024.

Amazon’s Midwest economic development lead, Kyle DeGiulio, said the hub will stock everyday essentials and Amazon grocery items people want within hours. It is expected to open in late 2027 or early 2028 after a retrofit that includes refrigeration.
